The Gingerbread auction is live!

Bid early, bid often….  Bid here.

This sweet fundraiser supports serious work.

This works like a people’s choice.  All bids count; the house that garners the highest total amount of donations will be declared the winner.

Donations of any size welcome.  All donations are 100% tax-deductible and directly support CDRC programs.  The CDRC is a 501c3 nonprofit.

The donor who makes the highest individual donation on each house gets to choose the post-show fate of that house.  (These houses have ended up in living rooms, at office and union holiday parties, and donated to schools or shelters or other neighborhood organizations — it varies.  When the time comes, we’ll help with that.)

The auction website has slideshows of each of these amazing, incredible “houses.”  Here’s a sneak peak:

The houses are all on view at BSA Space, in the sidewalk-level gallery at 290 Congress Street.  Free and open to the public daily:  M-F 10am-6pm, S/S 10am-5pm.

The auction and gallery show are open through Monday, December 22 at 8pm.  Please join us at a closing reception December 22, 6-8pm where we will announce the winner.

Thank you to the architects and designers!  You’ve cooked up a whole lot of deliciousness.

Thank you Gingerbread 2015!

In its fourth year in 2015, the CDRC Gingerbread Design Competition, Exhibition, + Auction is a fun and tasty way to highlight the extraordinary talents of some of Boston’s top architects, to challenge the designers to explore a new medium, and to raise funds for the CDRC.

In 2015 more than 20 architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and urban planning firms baked delicious versions of how they IMAGINE BOSTON.  From skyscrapers to sea level rise, snowmen to seals, these confections feature fanciful visions of Boston now and in the future.

Sweet treats with a purpose.

This event also served as a fundraising AUCTION.  It works like a people’s choice:  the house that gathers the greatest grand total of donations ‘wins’ the competition and gets to take home the coveted Golden Spatula. The house that gathers the greatest number of bids — of any amount — will also be declared victorious.

ALL BIDS COUNT!  All bids are donations to the CDRC (a 501c3 nonprofit), are tax-deductible, and directly benefit 2016 CDRC programs.  Bids of any amount (in $5 increments) are welcome.  THANK YOU.

The AUCTION ENDED at 7pm on December 21, and raised over $18,000!  This is more than 2-1/2 times more than last year’s event.

…and the winners are:

Congratulations to Grand Prize winners Finegold Alexander Architects for their third consecutive victory!  They captured The Golden Spatula once again with an incredible $4,110 in total donations on their house.

An equally hearty congratulations to Goody Clancy for their first place Peoples Choice finish!  They demonstrated a stunning ability to bring out the congregation and thus bring home The Golden Whisk — the award for the greatest number of contributions.  96 total donations to their Trinity Church.

Margulies Perruzzi Architects put forth an impressive novice effort and demonstrated a stunning display of strategy, bringing home both The Silver Spatula ($3,565 in total donations) and The Silver Whisk (second highest number of contributors — 71).  “What if…” indeed!

And distinguished Honorable Mentions go to Conor Architects and Gienapp Design Associates, for their noble efforts in leading the charge in both donations and participants.  They led us to the finish line.

These sweet houses support serious work!

At the Gingerbread Reception we will launch our first Open Call for Projects — an open invitation to neighborhood groups and community nonprofits in the greater Boston area to apply for a design assistance grant.  Underserved audiences are especially encouraged to apply, as well as projects that otherwise fall between traditional funding cracks but that somehow serve to make communities better.  We’re looking to help you creatively improve the places you live, work, and play.

A huge THANK YOU to these firms and groups for cooking up incredible stuff:

…& a special shoutout to our friends at the BSLA for sending their “gingerscapes”

The Boston Society of Landscape Architects has now, for the second year in a row, organized a “gingerscape” competition as part of their annual meeting.  This year’s gingerscapes were built to CDRC exhibit specifications and are now on view in BSA Space galleries and in the online auction, offering an additional collection of savory perspectives on ways we might “Imagine Boston.”  Thank you BSLA — it’s sweet to have you join us!

Thanks to the BSA Foundation and the Boston Society of Landscape Architects for their generous support.

Thank you for supporting the CDRC!

Happy Holidays!
